• ELIZABETH MALLETT STARTS 2011 WITH MORE ACCOLADES

English Girls Champion Elizabeth Mallett has won a junior sports personality of the year award for her achivements. The 16 year old Warwickshire player, who plays at Sutton Coldfield Ladies Golf Club, was presented with the U18 trophy by former British Olympic hockey player, Jane Sixsmith at the Birmingham Metropolitan college awards ceremony. There were 16 nominees in Elizabeth's category, with three reaching the final short list. What an achievement for her, and then a couple of weeks later she had another reason to celebrate.

  • CHARLOTTE DALTON TURNS PRO - JANUARY 2011

Charlotte DALTON turned Pro in January 2011 and will be playing on the European Access Tour for the 2011 season, with long term plans to progress to the main Ladies European Tour. Charlotte has been part of County golf for many years - first as a junior and then as an invaluable member of the County team.

  • WLCGA QUIZ 2011 SPONSORED by LYLE & SCOTT

Once again our quiz mistress Pam Harben has set us a new challenge to keep us all occupied during the coming few months! The challenge this year, which Pam reassures me is easier than last year?s British Towns Quiz (which was hard!), is to find words within the word 'WARWICKSHIRE' from the given clues. All answers must be 4 letter words or more - no plurals. Charge is £ 1 per entry - each entry must be a pre-numbered entry. Copies of the quiz can be obtained from your Club Delegate (or Ladies' Captain) or ask any County committee member. Answers must be submitted to Pam Harben (address on entry sheet) by 30 September 2011. Our sponsor again this year is LYLE & SCOTT and the prizes are £ 100 Lyle & Scott vouchers for the 1st prize and £ 75 Lyle & Scott vouchers for the 2nd prize. You do not have to be a golfer/member of a golf club to participate - all are welcome! We are proud to have Lyle & Scott as our sponsor - do take a look at their new ranges of clothing on their website - www.lyleandscott.com Prizes will be presented at the WLCGA Ltd AGM on Wednesday 16 November 2011 at Copt Heath Golf Club. PLEASE NOTE ERROR ON QUIZ!! CLUE 66 SHOULD READ 'PARTNER OF 67' - NOT 'partner of 66'

  • FEBRUARY 2011 WINTER ALLIANCE

Even a Birdie 'two' on the 18th hole island green at the West Midlands GC Winter Alliance competition held on Monday 7th February, was not good enough to win! The high blustery winds made the whole course extremely challenging and to actually get onto the island green was a feat in itself! Congratulations to the Shirley team of Yen Pham and Rachel Watkinson for a magnificent two, which secured second place in the competition on a tough winter golfing day.

  • COUNTY DELEGATES MEETING

A County meeting was held on Monday 24th January at Copt Heath Golf Club for both Lady Club Delegates and Handicap Secretaries. The room was full with representatives from the majority of clubs within Warwickshire. Dottie Beanland introduced the County Committee for 2011, Liz Murdoch explained the enclosures in envelopes given out prior to the meeting and apologised for the lack of County Booklets, owing to mistakes made at the printers. These will be sent out as soon as possible. Jane Betts brought the Delegates up to date with the progress being made with regard to the Merger (more on this at the next Delegates meeting) and Claire Dowling talked about changes in Handicap regulations. Altogether a very successful and informative meeting. If you have any queries about what is happening within Warwickshire golf for Ladies or EWGA, why not talk to your Club Delegate.

  • JUNIORS XMAS PARTY 2010

Held shortly after Christmas at Olton Golf Club, the following pictures show: 1) Jane Dennick presenting Katrina GANI with the order of merit Trophy for 2010: 2) Jane Dennick presenting Charlotte HARTSHORN with the Sylvia Evans Trophy for the most improved player in 2010 and 3) Hannah McLOUGHLIN handing over the Captain's badge to Hannah Pearl WOOD for the 2011 season. This will be the last time that Jane Dennick will be officiating at a Juniors event, as she officially handed over the reigns to Barbara Malins in November 2010. She will be greatly missed, but I am sure the juniors will go on from strength to strength.
