• LOCAL SWINGSTERS ‘PUTT IT AWAY’ AT THE BELFRY

    Three youngsters from King Edward Bay Golf Club on the Isle of Man have beaten 4401 other competitors from around the UK to triumph in the National Final of the British Heart Foundation Junior Golf Championship 2003. Talented youngsters, Juan Brown (17), Ryan Cassidy (17) and Craig Astin (17) were delighted to win the prestigious title at The Belfry on Monday 22 September.     The Dunlop Starter Centre Initiative has reached new heights this month, with the number of Dunlop Starter Centres hitting the 375 mark; a fantastic achievement for the Golf Foundation who’s main aim is to promote and develop junior golf across the British Isles. Dunlop’s sponsorship of the Starter Centre Network, coupled with a successful Sportsmatch application, has enabled the Golf Foundation to reach the significant landmark of 375 Dunlop Starter Centres across the British Isles, with 20 new Starter Centres being identified this month following Dunlop and Sportsmatch’s investment.

  • WEETABIX DRIVES JUNIOR GOLFERS TO BE

    August 2003, The Forest of Arden, Warwickshire - Over 100 of the country’s most talented young golfers have just completed the Grand Final of the Golf Foundation Weetabix Age Group Championship 2003. Girls and boys from all over the country battled it out on the challenging Aylesford course in one of the UK’s top junior golfing tournaments. The Golf Foundation Weetabix Age Group Championships, now in their 16th year, provide an opportunity for boys and girls from Great Britain and Ireland to play against golfers of their own age. The Grand Final was the culmination of months of club qualifying rounds & regional finals.

    Andy Sullivan was the only Warwickshire representative in this the culmination of regional qualifying and National finals which has some pedigree and has include winners by the name of Lee Westwood, amoungst others. This year, Andy was the lowest handicap for the U16s Boys, and playing against the likes of Steven Capper (Caldy)and Lee Lewis (Gower).

  • Dougherty is in town to support the 2003 Golf Foundation Finals

    Leading European Tour professional Nick Dougherty will be cheering on the country’s most talented junior golfers next week as they compete to become 2003 Age Group Champions of Great Britain and Ireland. A hundred of golf’s finest girls and boys will be taking part in the 2003 Golf Foundation Weetabix Age Group Championships at the Marriott Forest of Arden Golf & Country Club, Warwickshire on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th August

  • Warwickshire crowns its youngest ever champion – Jamie Carney

    The 1st ever Warwickshire Schools Championship was held on Tuesday 12th August over the excellent 9 Hole course at Lea Marston. Using a format developed for use by the English Schools Organisation, it was a championship where handicaps did not count. The best player was going to win and that was Jamie Carney, but it was very close.

    Last Sunday, the Warwickshire 1st Team went down to one of their heaviest defeats in recent years. Last year, Warwickshire Boys blew their chances of the Midland League title with a poor performance against their opposition today, Staffs Boys. This year, it was a record win and in the singles
