The Warwickshire Seniors 2004
On 16th August 2004, the Warwickshire Seniors Championship will be held at Nuneaton GC. It is 18 holes for players aged over 55 with trophies for the Seniors Champion as well as for those in their 70s and 80s and just like the Champions Tour and the European Seniors Tour, the standards of play are rising every year.
U15s - North Warks 3rd August 2004
Last year Jack Sant took the U15s and he will return to North Warwickshire GC to try and emulate Paul Broadhurst by winning this title twice in succession. His closest challenger will be (on handicap basis) Steve Mumford who became one of the youngest ever club champions in 2003 by winning at his home club Coventry Hearsall.
The Warwickshire Open - an Amateur win in 2004?
By finishing in the Top 25 in the Amateur, our players can then qualify for the Warwickshire Open to be held at Olton Golf Club on the 1st September 2004. For the last three years this title has been held by Matt Morris and twice by one of our ex Amateur Champions, Adrian Carey. Morris came close to qualifying for the European Tour whilst Carey now has found he plays his best golf by not over committing himself. He will be there as will our best Amateurs ....
The 2004 Boys and Youths
There are a dozen players who will form the basis of the 2004 Warwickshire Junior team who should be the main challengers for the Junior Championship - but last year, few thought of Chris Hazeldine as a contender, until he won his own Club Championship the week before. Harborne may spring its own surprise on the field. The U21s will have just as tight a field, and may include Chris Evans, David Harris, Jon Wetton and Chris Hazeldine, the holder of the title.
Warwickshire Schools
The first Junior Major event of 2004 will be the Warwickshire Schools held at Henley Golf and Country Club on 14th April. A number of our County Squad will not be able to win the Schools Title (won by Paul Broadhurst amongst others) but they will be able to play as guests for JoM points, competing alongside Sam Foster, Andy Sullivan, Neil Taylor, Chris Hazeldine and the 2003 Champion, Dale Marson.
Boys Trials - Stoneleigh GC - 15th April
This is the first of the Warwickshire Union Championships for 2004 and it always attracts all the best Junior golfers as well as those who are on the fringes of selection or are young golfers showing some talent. Last year, a new face in Mark James (Whitefields) beat off notables such as Chris Evans for this first win of the season. James went on to play for the County, on the back of his excellent score.
