An Eagle From 'The Goose' Wins Thrilling Commercialbank Qatar Masters |
 |
|
South African world number eight Retief Goosen today won the $2.2 million Commercialbank Qatar Masters with a stunning birdie-eagle finish on the final two holes at Doha Golf Club. Going down the 587-yard par five eighteenth in joint second place, one shot behind Aussie left-hander Nick O'Hern, the South African knew a birdie might only be enough to force a play-off. But when O'Hern failed to make birdie, Goosen stepped up to drain a 35-foot eagle putt to finish on fifteen under-par (273), put his name on the trophy and leave O'Hern heartbroken.

Els Looms As Title Chase Hots Up |
| Aussie left-handers Richard Green and Nick O'Hern and South Africa's world number eight Retief Goosen go into the final round of the $2.2 million Commercialbank Qatar Masters tomorrow in a three-way tie for the lead on twelve under par. But while the trio go into the home stretch neck-and-neck, former champion Ernie Els has moved ominously into contention and is just four shots behind. It won't be lost on the record attendance at the Doha Golf Club that Els pulled back a five-shot deficit when he won in Qatar in 2005.

Played over the challenging 7,355-yard Doha Golf Club, the Commercialbank Qatar Masters will see Stenson face Major winners, Ryder Cup stars and several of the world's top twenty players.
