- Practice Makes Perfect
Warwickshire 2nd Team v Staffordshire 2nd Team - Bloxwich Golf Club - Sunday 5 August 2012 - With an unbeaten record so far this season following two halved away matches, our challenge for the Midland League title could disappear with a loss or put us in a strong position if we recorded our first away win with a couple of home games to finish the season - this match was pivotal !!
- 'Super Sunday'
1st v Staffordshire 5th August 2012 Harborne Golf Club - The Olympic Games are well under way and Great Britain are set to surpass their medal hoard achieved in Beijing 4 years ago. Golf is now an official Olympic sport and will feature in the next Olympics hosted by Brazil in 2016 and we could well see the likes of Luke Donald and Lee Westwood vying for the coverted gold medal. Closer to home however the Warwickshire 1st team are chasing their own gold medal dreams as most of you will know is the reward given to each team member for winning their respective County league title.
- The start of the Mackay Dynasty
The 2012 Warwickshire Boys Championship - The Menzies Welcombe Golf & County Club - Thursday 2nd August - Its been a few years since an U16 golfer won the Boys but continuing on more than two month's of very good form, 'youngster' Iain Mackay took the title - just - over the beautiful and sometimes difficult Welcombe links.
- Reflections of your Past President
Each President of the Union acts as its figurehead for two years, attending every Match & Championship (and dinners!). For the year before they become President, and for the year after this cycle, their lives are a little easier as they are only the 'mascot' for the 2nds and its with a smile (as you will read later) that this is just one of many wonderful recollections of John Powell, your most recently retired President of the Warwickshire Union.
- Boys vs Staffs
On 8th July, the Boys, team travelled to Hawkesyard, formerly known as St Thomas' Priory, for a match with Staffordshire. With the exception of one brief shower the weather was sunny and windy. We were narrowly defeated by 8 matches to 7 in a most exciting game.
- HERMESTON DEFENDS MCGREGOR TROPHY AT TREVOSE
Jack Hermeston will defend the title when the English Boys Under 16 Open Championship for the McGregor Trophy is played at Trevose Golf Club in Cornwall on 17th - 19th July. Our own Max Martin and Ian McKay are in the field.
