- Warwickshire crowns its youngest ever champion – Jamie Carney
The 1st ever Warwickshire Schools Championship was held on Tuesday 12th August over the excellent 9 Hole course at Lea Marston. Using a format developed for use by the English Schools Organisation, it was a championship where handicaps did not count. The best player was going to win and that was Jamie Carney, but it was very close.
- Sant takes Warwickshire Championship No1
For Jack Sant, this was a very special day. He is only 14 and will qualify for the U15s next year but along with Leigh Pritchard, Tom Price and Steve Mumford, he is one of a select group of very talented Juniors who are expected to carry on the incredible level of success for our County in future years. All the above, and a number of others, have done well at U16 s level playing and winning matches against the best from other Counties. There have been hiccups though and all our Juniors know of the success that the County has had, and of the players who have gone on to Tour success. One such player, and past U15s Champion, is Paul Broadhurst, a name Jack was first to mention.
- Boys vs Staffs - 13th July 2003 at Harborne GC
Last Sunday, the Warwickshire 1st Team went down to one of their heaviest defeats in recent years. Last year, Warwickshire Boys blew their chances of the Midland League title with a poor performance against their opposition today, Staffs Boys. This year, it was a record win and in the singles
- 1st Team crash to worst defeat in three years Team away to Shrops and Hereford at the Shropshire GC - Sunday 6th July
We were beaten by the better team - None of us like loosing and we will learn from this . said Andy Kearns, Captain for this match (his first time as skipper) and due to be in charge for the next two years when he takes over the responsibility for the 1st team full time.
- Midland League - 1st Senior matches of the Season
Three weeks ago Warwickshire Juniors beat Worcestershire in their first League match of 2003 (comfortably) and this weekend the 1sts and 2nds took on the same County at the start of their League Campaigns, with the 1sts looking to defend their Midland League title.
- 10 Counties 2003 - Gog Magog GC
Saturday 21st June With scoring never have been seen so low, this year s Midland Region County Qualifier looked, at first glance, very different to any previous year. At 6300 yards (Par 70) and running very fast Gog Magog is still a very good test of golf. All the three par fives were in range, but to counteract this, the five par 3 pins were very difficult to get close to and flags were tucked away on a number of par 4 holes. The greens were very hard, the surfaces almost burnt back, so missing a green on the wrong side was a guaranteed bogey.
- 10 Counties 2003 - Gog Magog GC - Saturday 21st June
10 Counties - One man stands out but Warwickshire come a great second Having won the British Amateur, Gary Wolstenholme returned to County golf and played a huge part in Leicestershire s win at this years 10 Counties - but there was an excellent performance by the Warwickshire Team
