- NEW VISION FOR GOLF
Golf is being given a renewed focus in England by the nation’s three major governing bodies, which aim to increase the number of individuals playing golf by 10% from 4.2m to 4.6m by 2009. Under the umbrella of the England Golf Partnership, The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA), English Golf Union (EGU) and English Ladies Golf Association (ELGA) have created a Vision for English Golf.
- A big win for the end of the season
At Morley Hayes Golf Club, on Tuesday 19th October, Warwickshire retained the Midland Junior League title with an excellent performance in some terrible conditions. Having qualified unbeaten again, their opponents were the same as 2003, Nottinghamshire. It promised to be a close match but after a morning foursomes win by 4-1, Warwickshire were very much in the driving seat.
- Sant takes the JoM Championship
Saturday 16th October 2004 – West Midlands Golf Club - Jack Sant (Ladbrook Park) took the season end of Warwickshire Union Stroke-play events when he captured the Junior Order of Merit Championship, with a 68 gross for 42 points. He beat Dale Middleton on count-back after the Coventry Junior had posted the first 40+ points score from the elite field.
- The 2004 Jom Championship DRAW
On Saturday 16th October, at the West Midlands Golf Club, the following 24 players will compete for the 2004 JoM Championship and their final placings in the 2004 Warwickshire Junior Order of Merit. This is the draw for the Qualifiers.
- The Midland League 1st team trophy is back in Warwickshire
On a day when bad weather was expected to disrupt play for the last day of Midland League matches for 2004, for County 1st and 2nd Teams, it was a delighted (eventually) Andy Kearns who saw the fruits of developing Team Warwickshire, together with Gordon Marston whose second team saw his caretaker year as Captain finish in incredible style.
- Walker Cup Squad announced
A preliminary squad of 29 players has been announced for the 2005 Ryder Cup to be played at Chicago Golf Club on 13th and 14th August. It include 5 players who are still under-18 and as yet, there is no place yet for our own Matt Cryer.
- Unbeaten for 2004 – now for Notts
The 2004 Warwickshire Juniors Team, which to Brian Fish, Chairman of Junior Golf are Brian thinks ‘The best squad of Juniors in the Midlands’, continued their unbeaten run of team matches that stretches back into 2002, when the likes of Chris Evans was playing, with a, 8.5-5.5 win over Derbyshire at Burton-on Trent Golf Club on Sunday 11th September.
