Another England Champion – Hannah Coles wins the Schools U16s
Hannah Coles lost in the final of the ELGA U15s last Friday. She was philosophical about that defeat having been up early on and she knew that she would have one more chance this Summer for a National title to go with her County Championship, the ESGA U16s to be held at her home course of Maxstoke Park. A full report on this Championship follows if you click ‘more’ and look out on Wednesday for news from the Girls Jamboree and of a wonderful new Course record from County Captain Marsha Button at her home course Nuneaton.
Warwickshire crowns its youngest ever champion – Jamie Carney and Hannah McLoughlin runs him very close
The 1st ever Warwickshire Schools Championship was held on Tuesday 12th August over the excellent 9 Hole course at Lea Marston. Using a format developed for use by the English Schools Organisation, it was a championship where handicaps did not count. The best player was going to win and that was Jamie Carney, but it was very close with Hannah McLoughlin and Alice Young just a shot and two behind.

Warwickshire Schools 2003
With rain promised for lunchtime, competitors in the 2003 Schools should have had plenty of time to complete their rounds. Those first off had almost a dry round but for many, the early arrival of damp conditions pushed a fair few to higher scores. It was the players who were striking the ball well who managed to keep playing well, notably Lucy Powell whose nett 65 was good enough for the Wales Trophy for the best Net, by just one shot from James Parker-Cooper and Russell Heritage. Whilst Lucy celebrated her trophy win in her last year of Junior golf (she is 18 very soon), this was also the last year for defending (and three time) champion Felicity Johnson.
