• Dale’s Double

    With two 69s, Dale Marson from Rugby Golf Club repeated the performance of Chris Evans (in 2002) and Chris Hazledine (2003) in winning both the Boys and the U21s Championships for 2004 – by 3 and 4 shots respectively. It was excellent golf over the perfectly set-up Colt Course of Harborne GC, a true test for the best Boys and U21s in the County.

  • Rumford strolls to victory by four shots

    DROGHEDA, Ireland - Brett Rumford grew up playing in the wind in his birthplace of Perth, Australia and the experience helped him land the Irish Open title at Baltray on Sunday. Rumford, 27 on Tuesday, fired a five-under closing round of 67 to win by four strokes and became the first Australian in 54 years to take the title. Three successive birdies from the second thrust the Australian ahead of countryman Peter Lonard and into a lead he never relinquished, despite a brave attempt by Padraig Harrington that hauled the Irish hope within one stroke early in the round.

  • Lonard survives blip to lead by one

    DROGHEDA, Ireland (AP) _ Peter Lonard of Australia delivered a perfect example of how to keep your cool when disaster strikes as he overcame a blip in mid-round that cost him four strokes in the third round of the Irish Open on Saturday. The 37-year-old from Sydney triple-bogeyed the short seventh and three-putted the eighth for bogey but still shot a level-par 72 to keep the lead after three rounds on the wind-swept links of Baltray on the east coast of Ireland.

    At Brocton Hall, as Todd Hamilton was winning the Open, the Championship he had dreamed about and worked for in two decades playing golf across the World, 12 Warwickshire Juniors were continuing winning ways by beating Staffordshire Juniors comfortably to cement the team’s position at the top of the Midland League.

  • Doughill takes Midland U16s honours for 2004

    With two rounds of 72, it was a great performance from one of the youngest of the Warwickshire contingent in the 2004 Midland Boys at Moseley GC. With our County having won this Post and Mail trophy for Midland Boys itself, each of the last three years, expectations were high throughout but eventually only Chris Doughill was able to claim a Midland Trophy.
